Sydney Newborn & Baby Photographer

Tiny details. Big love.
The fastest season of all.

Tiny toes, sleepy snuggles and all the delicate details you never want to forget, a baby shoot is truly special, designed to capture the magic of the early days as a memory forever. Every moment is photographed with care, creativity and calm, and we’re well versed in keeping your little one happy.

For toddlers, we’ve got props and toys to keep them entertained in the studio or in the park, and we’re yet to meet someone who doesn’t love the ducky puppet!

With 25 years behind the camera, I’ve learned that the most meaningful baby photos are about creating a calm space, following your baby’s lead, and capturing the real connection between you — tender, beautiful, and completely yours.

Every session is designed to feel calm and supported — with soft guidance, flexible timing, and plenty of space for real life. Whether you’re in the haze of new parenthood or chasing a crawling baby with a big grin, I’ll help you create artwork that holds this chapter forever.

Newborn Sessions (7–12 days)

The tiny, sleepy newborn bubble.

This is the classic newborn stage, when babies are still super snuggly, curled and dreamy. These sessions are gentle and unhurried, with plenty of time for feeding, settling and cuddles. We’ll capture a mix of baby-alone portraits and heartfelt family moments, with simple styling and beautiful light.

Baby Sessions (6–8 weeks)

More alert. More expression. Still deliciously small.

If you miss the early newborn window (or prefer a more awake, natural feel), 6–8 weeks is magic. Babies often give you gorgeous eye contact, tiny smiles, and those sweet “I know you” moments. It’s a beautiful option for parents who want connection-first images without the pressure of those very early days.

The 8 Month Stage
(A favourite for a reason)

Personality arrives — and it’s everything.

Around the 8-month mark is one of my absolute favourite stages to photograph. Babies are usually sitting, giggling, grabbing toes, and interacting with you in the most joyful way. It’s playful, expressive, and full of those heart-bursting moments — the kind that make you say, “How did we get here so fast?”

Your Baby Photography Experience

The Lion & Cub photography experience consists of three stages.

Before Your Session

If you are hoping to book a newborn session, we suggest booking an appointment 2-3 weeks before your due date.

We start with a planning chat to get to know your family, what sentimental items you may wish to bring and who will be attending the photoshoot. We also plan the look and feel and discuss colour palettes and what to wear.  Timing for newborn sessions  usually start at ten am to give you a chance to get organised and before sleep deprivation sets in!

During Your Session

Newborn sessions at my St Peters studio are designed to feel calm, warm, and completely un-rushed. This is not a ‘show up and perform’ kind of experience — it’s a gentle space where you can exhale, settle in, and let your baby lead the pace.

We’ll move slowly and flexibly, with plenty of time for feeding, cuddles, soothing, nappy changes, and little breaks whenever needed. If baby needs extra time, that’s not a problem — it’s normal, expected, and built into the session.

You don’t need to worry about posing or knowing what to do. I’ll guide you with soft direction and simple prompts, and I’ll take care of the details — the lighting, the angles, the styling — so you can simply be present. Some of the most beautiful images come from the quiet moments: the way you hold them, the way they melt into you, the way you look at each other.

If you’d like to include siblings or a partner, we can absolutely do that too. I’ll keep it relaxed and low-pressure, capturing connection without forcing anyone into stiff smiles.

Please remember: you don’t need a ‘perfect’ baby for beautiful photographs. You just need to show up — and we’ll create something timeless together.

After the Shoot

Once your images are edited, you’ll receive a private online gallery of your curated, retouched photos. From there, choose the images you want to download — with the option to upgrade if you’d like more. To secure your shoot date, simply pay a $200 deposit, with the remaining balance based on your chosen collection (Cub / Pride / Legacy).

To select treasured wall art or an album of images, book an in-person appointment where we can look at all the images, choose artwork, and design how it will look. This can be done via Zoom if more convenient.

Whether you’ve pre-booked the Cub Collection or are choosing individual artworks, I’ll make the process easy, fun, and inspiring — helping you pick the images that truly capture your family’s personality.

In an age where digital is king, Lion & Cub believes there is power and beauty in real art, hung on the wall to see.

FAQs

Newborn (7–12 Days) vs 6–8 Weeks — Which Is Best?

If you’re deciding between a classic newborn session (7–12 days) or waiting until 6–8 weeks, there’s no wrong choice — just a different kind of magic. 7–12 days is ideal for sleepy, curled-up portraits and that tiny newborn bubble. 6–8 weeks brings more alertness, eye contact, and those beautiful early expressions — a more natural, connection-first session that still captures all the small details.

My honest preference? 6–8 weeks.

This is one of my favourite ages to photograph. Babies are often more settled, more awake, and starting to show personality — tiny smiles, curious eyes, and that “I know you” feeling. It’s also a wonderful option for parents who want a calmer experience with less pressure in those very early post-birth days.

That’s completely normal — and nothing to stress about. Newborns cry to communicate, and we simply pause, cuddle, feed, resettle, and continue. This session is baby-led, not clock-led.

Newborn life is unpredictable. If you’re running behind, just send a quick message — we’ll adjust. I build flexibility into newborn sessions for exactly this reason.

Just the basics: nappies, wipes, a dummy if you use one, and extra milk/formula if needed. If you have a sentimental item (a special blanket, toy, or heirloom), you’re welcome to bring it — but you don’t need anything fancy.

Yes — I have a curated selection of simple wraps and studio pieces. Styling is kept timeless and gentle, so your images won’t date — the focus stays on your baby and your connection.

Absolutely. The studio is kept warm and cosy for baby comfort, and we work at a pace that keeps everyone settled. (Bring light layers for yourself — it can feel toasty!)

Soft, neutral tones photograph beautifully and keep the images timeless. Think creams, whites, oatmeal, soft browns, muted pastels — no big logos or busy patterns. If you’d like, I can help you choose outfits from what you already own. I have prepared this handy what to wear guide.

Yes — and those images are often the ones you’ll treasure most. We’ll capture a mix: baby alone, baby with you, and family connection without forcing stiff poses.

Totally normal newborn stuff. I retouch gently while keeping baby looking like baby — real, soft, and beautiful.

Newborn sessions are unhurried. We allow plenty of time for feeding and settling so it feels calm, not rushed.

Totally normal — kids don’t need to “perform” for beautiful portraits. I work quickly, gently and playfully so we capture real connection… and often the in-between moments become the favourites. I am also a teacher, and have a special knack and a make animal noises where appropriate to get the giggles – and I can work with a telephoto lens and hide behind trees if required. I can read the room and intuitively work with emotions – as my testimonials will verify.

If the weather isn’t suitable, we’ll reschedule or switch to a studio session. Easy and stress-free.

Your gallery is typically ready within 2–3 weeks (often sooner in quieter periods). If you have a special deadline (birthday, Mother’s Day, etc.), tell me and I’ll do my best to help.
